We have several great golf holes here at Prestwick Country Club and the par 5 9th hole is no exception.  This challenging and beautiful golf hole provides golfers with an amazing finish to the front nine as it comes back to the clubhouse.  Not only does No.9 bring the opening side to an end, it makes players test every type of shot they might have in the bag in order to walk away with a par or better on the scorecard.

The tee box sits slightly above the fairway and is tucked right along side the large pond that separates the 9th hole from the par 4 18th finishing hole.  Golfers will head back to the golf cart and grab their cell phone to take a picture of the view from the tee box.  It is a gorgeous setting, but players need not be lulled to sleep by the beauty and be prepared for the tough tee shot that lies in front of them.  The hole stretches as far as 537  yards from the back tees to 366 from the front tees, but no matter what tees golfers choose to play the water is lurking along the left hand side of the landing area waiting to swallow up wayward tee balls.

Rolling mounds roll along the right hand side of the fairway just in front of some amazing homes in the Prestwick community.  Hitting a golf ball into the mounds is certainly safer than the water on the left but it is still no picnic to play the next shot from, especially if the ball is nestled down in the bottom of the bermuda rough and the base of a mound.  The good news is that the fairway is pretty large and wide open so if golfers can find it off the tee they will be set up for a good look at a second shot.  Now for most golfers the second shot requires laying up to set up a shorter approach shot into a very tough green.  Long hitters can be daring and try to reach the well guarded green in 2 shots.

The putting surface is smallish and well protected by deep sand traps and grass bunkers along the right side and the water comes right up to the fringe on the left.  It is a very intimidating looking approach shot for any golfer to stare down.  Players need to take a deep breathe, a solid swing and aim for the center of the green.  A par is a very good score on this amazing golf hole.  Any golfer that can walk away with better than a 5 on the card should head into the bar inside the clubhouse behind the green and grab a celebratory drink!!!
