Recently the South Carolina Golf Course Ratings Panel along with Myrtle Beach Golf Trips included the 9th and 18th holes at Prestwick Country Club as part of the “Dream 18”.  This is part of a ratings system that named “Myrtle Beach’s Perfect Round” of golf.  Here at Prestwick we are proud to have two holes included in their prestigious list.

The panel was formed in 2004 with the the bulk of the members having played just about every course in rating the best of the best across the state of South Carolina.  Each of the members were asked to list their favorite holes broken down by category Par 3, Par 4 and Par 5.  After the panelist turned in their lists the choices were narrowed down to the most popular and then voted on by the group.

“There are so many great layouts in the Myrtle Beach area that we needed to to this panel of experts to identify the best holes” said Steve Mays, director of sales and marketing for Founders Group International, owner of Myrtle Beach Golf Trips.

The 9th hole at Prestwick is an amazingly beautiful as well as challenging par 5.  It tests golfers nerves on every shot from tee to green as water borders the entire left hand side of the hole.  The challenge starts with the slight dogleg left tee shot and continues to the every narrowing fairway as golfers get closer to the green.  The approach shot is a tough shot into a large multi-level green surrounded by pot bunkers and water left.  Par is a great score here!

The par 4 18th hole is a fun hole to finish the round on.  This time the water runs the length of the hole on the right hand side as golfers head back toward the clubhouse.  The wide open fairway has mounds and bunkers lining the left side.  The green is large and welcoming.  This is a good hole to finish the round with a par or even a possible birdie.

“We are very excited and humbled to be included on this list.  To have two holes included is really outstanding and we thank the panel for choosing Prestwick”, said Jay Smith PGA Head Professional.
